Prevage, Prevage MD, Prevage Eye Cream, and Idebenone: what they are and where to find them

Prevage is an anti-aging product which has gotten tremendous buzz since its introduction.  Prevage,  made by Allergan (the makers of Botox), was originally launched in January 2005 as a 1% Idebenone cream.  Idebenone is an antioxidant with claims to out-perform Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Coenzyme Q10, Kinetin, and alpha lipoic acid in the treatment of aging skin.

Prevage MD

The  original 1% Prevage formula is now called Prevage MD.

Although many individuals have had negative reactions (some severe) to Prevage MD, I have not and have been using Prevage MD successfully since early-2005.  Both the February 2005 edition, and March 2005 edition, of Beauty Bits and Tips discuss my (and others) experience with Prevage MD. We recommend that you check out Prevagemd.com to see their recommendations for usage and other information about of Prevage MD.

PREVAGE (.05% idebenone)

In late-2005,  a second Prevage formulation was brought into the marketplace by Elizabeth Arden in conjunction with Allergan.  This second Prevage formula, known simply as Prevage,  contains 0.5% idebenone -- half the amount that is  in Prevage MD.  We have heard claims that in clinical studies there has been been no significant difference in results using 1% idebenone and 0.5% idebenone.

We understand that some people have also had negative reactions to this formulation as well and recommend that if you are going to try this product that you check out the Prevage section of Elizabeth Arden's website for information about the product and how to use it.

PREVAGE Eye Anti-Aging Moisturizing Treatment

A Prevage eye cream was introduced in October  2006. We understand this product will target wrinkles, dark circles, and puffiness.  Unlike Prevage for the face, you will not need a separate moisturizer to use over it.  It is being sold in a .5 oz. container at a price of $95.  It is too early to know if allergic reactions will occur with this product.

Buying Prevage MD

At this time Prevage MD is being sold both through physicians and a very few e-merchants.  However, there are a number of websites which give consumers a telephone number to call in order to buy the product.

Prevagemd.com - On its website, Allergan has provided a list of physicians who are selling this product.
