Bridal Beauty Tips:  the dos and don'ts for your special day

find a  makeup artist in your area

We asked  Katrina Hess owner of  Katrina Hess Weddings in Boston to answer give us some hints on wedding day makeup.  A professional makeup artist for over 18 years and named "Best of Boston" for bridal makeup, Katrina was kind enough to give us some of her dos and don'ts for brides (and their attendants).

The Dos

*If you possibly can, use a professional makeup artist with whom you can have a pre-wedding day consultation and book an appointment for an on-location service.

* Have your makeup done just before dressing

* Make sure your foundation is matched to your décolletage .  This is particularly important if you are wearing a strapless gown.

* Have a facial and have a back "facial" if your back breaks out since your skin needs to be clean and polished.   If facials are a new treatment for you, it is recommended that you have monthly facials starting at least three months prior to your wedding.   You should schedule your pre-wedding facial at least 48 hours prior to your wedding day.

* Use powdered rice papers to eliminate shine.

* Use a medium to light lipstick with a thin layer of gloss in you are having black and white photographs taken.

* Exfoliate the lips.  Lipstick will stay on longer and look smoother.

* Use a primer before foundation to keep it  on longer, and use an eye shadow primer to prevent shadows from creasing.  This is particularly important if you are having videos made.

* Use translucent powder to set all makeup.

* Have your makeup done as close to the ceremony as possible.

* Make sure all lines are blended.  As an example, if you are using a lip pencil, use a lip brush to even out the definition.

* Use eye drops to prevent redness.

The Don'ts

* If at all possible, don't do your makeup yourself  if you are not trained on the "how tos."

* Don't make a mask of your foundation.

* Don't use too many shimmery products on dry skin.

* Don't overuse lip gloss, keep it to a minimum.
