Beauty Bits and Tips:  a few more beauty hints from us

make-up on the go: the eight minute face

I've read all the articles on how to get up in the morning and "put on your face" in five minutes.  I've tried them all and they never worked for me.  When I'm late I've been going barefaced.  Now with the seasons changing, I wanted to change my everyday look.  So, I decided to try to develop a minimal make-up routine that would give me a little glamour but get me out the door in a hurry.  So, here's my new routine:

The Eyes

  • Curl my eyelashes - A step not to be ignored since it helps open up the eye.  And, please, make this your first step.  You don't want to use an eyelash curler once you have make-up on your eye, particularly mascara.

  • Put on eye primer - I think it's worth the time since it helps my eye make-up stay on through the day.

  • Apply a light, neutral shade of eye shadow from lashes to brow.

  • Fill in my eyebrows - This small step makes a big difference in how I look.

  • Line my upper and lower lids with a pencil liner.

  • Smudge the pencil liner with a smudge brush dipped in a little eye shadow - This not only gives me a look I like, but the shadow placed over the liner helps it stay on during the day.

  • Put on mascara - Simply a must!  Use either dark brown or black during the day.

  • Apply camouflage under my eyes - Make this the last step in your eye make-up routine so that you can clean up any make-up that's gotten under your eyes before using the camouflage.

The Cheeks

  • Apply blush - Either cream or powder will do.

The Lips

  • Put on a lip conditioner - I find this both helps with the dryness and makes my lip pencil go on smoothly.

  • Use lip pencil over the entire lip - This helps the color to last longer.

  • Apply a colored lip gloss using a lip brush.

Total time is eight minutes.

You may want a different daytime look which would require a somewhat different routine.  But, no matter what your routine, you'll save time if you have everything you need on hand and ready to go.  I have all the make-up and tools that I'm currently using in a compartmentalized tray so that I can just reach for whatever I need.  Keep all the pencils you use (eye, lip, eyebrow, etc.) sharpened so you don't find you need to do it while rushing to get out the door.  And remember, as you get more practice, you'll work more quickly and with more expertise.

I love being able to walk out the door in the morning both looking great and not having to get out of bed an hour early to do it.

Have a beautiful month!
