Beauty Bits and Tips:  a few more beauty hints from us

the hunt for sexy eyelashes:  We test some products

I keep looking for products to give me those thick, long, sexy eyelashes.  Maybe I'll never find the perfect product, but I'll keep trying.   So, over the past  couple of months,  I decided to test five different mascaras to see if they lived  up to their claims.  I tried them all  more than once and used them both alone and with a lash conditioner under the product (in most cases Paula Dorf Perfect Lash - $15 at Beauty.com). So, here are the results...

Biotherm -  Open Eyes Endless Lengthening Extreme Curving Mascara: Here's what they say, "Our patented 'Open Flex' brush deposits the perfect amount of our exclusive lengthening mascara formula while the brush curves and separates each lash."  Here's what we say.   I bought this mascara in another city  when I  forgot to pack my own.  I went to a beauty boutique and asked for a recommendation.  When they suggested Biotherm as a good, moderately price mascara, I was skeptical.  I knew the company had a strong skin care line but hadn't heard much about their cosmetics.  However, I was pleasantly surprised.  The product went on quite well and gave me adequate length and thickness.  When I used it over a conditioner, the result was even better.  Over time, I liked this product better and better. ($14 at macys.com)

Blinc - Kiss Me Mascara:  Here's what they say, "It is a uniquely formulated mascara that forms tiny 'tubes' around your lashes that will not smudge, run, clump, or flake and requires only water to remove." Here's what we say.   This mascara is much thinner than others I have used.  This makes application very easy.   It gives nice length and decent thinkness without a conditioner and  works even better with a conditioner.   But, removal is difficult.  Indeed the mascara forms tiny tubes around the lashes and when  I took my eye makeup off (using oil-free eye  makeup remover), I  found I had fibers around my eyes that were a nuisance to remove. ($24 at Sephora.com)

Bourjois - Coupe de Theatre:   Here's what they say,  "... a unique, extra lengthening and ultra-thickening dual-ended mascara."  Here's what we say.   I  liked the concept of a product with a lash conditioner on one end and a mascara on the other.  In reality I  liked the results less.  In this case I tried the product only with its own conditioner and never without it.   I felt that both the conditioner and mascara were so thick that application was difficult and results were mediocre at best. ($16 at Sephora.com)

Lancome - Magicils:  Here's what they say, "Colour wears all day. Water takes it away...this 'magic' mascara lets you lengthen and separate your lashes while enveloping them with vibrant color. Innovative formula wears for 12 hours. No smudges, flakes or smears."  Here's what we say, results were in the middle of the pack both with and without lash conditioner.  For the price, I thought the results should have been outstanding.  ($21 at Sephora.com)

Maybelline - Great Lash Mascara, Blackest Black (Washable): Here's what they say, "Conditions as it thickens.  No clumps, No globs."  Here's what we say.  Another very good product from Maybelline's Great Lash line.  It works well both with and without lash conditioner.   For the price, you can't go wrong, even as an extra to stick in your makeup bag.  ( $4.79 at drugstore.com)

So, after this test what are my all time favorite mascaras (so far)On the expensive side, I would vote for Dior's Maxim Eyes Mascara  (an old favorite of mine, so it was not reviewed above.)  I found it really does the trick better than anything else I've found ($22 at Sephora.com).   My choice for a moderately priced brand would be Biotherm 's Open Eyes Endless Lengthening Extreme Curving Mascara.  For an inexpensive mascara, I believe the choice is clear.  Any  Maybelline's Great Lash Mascara will give you tremendous bang for your buck.

So, the hunt will continue and I will keep you informed.

Have a beautiful month!
