Beauty Bits and Tips:  a few more beauty hints from us

Product Round-up: Some great new finds

I don't know about you, but by the time August rolls around I'm always a little "itchy" to try some new products. I find I'm getting a little bored with those colors I picked in the Spring and the "Dog Days" of summer are making me take extra notice of my skin and body.  So, I've been on the hunt for some mid-summer beauty products and I've found some I really like.

Hair

Ecru Silk Nectar Serum - My stylist raves about this product and I bought some a while ago.  But, when I brought it home I couldn't figure out exactly what to do with it.  Well this summer I figured it out.  It is great for fighting the frizz when crunching gelled hair.  Using a very small amount (that's important) to coat my hands as I "break the shell" of the gel, the frizz is minimal. ($28 at HeavenSpa.com)

Face

Astara Golden Flame Hydration Mask - For the longest while I've been looking for a hydration mask that was non-comedogenic but hydrated well.  finally came across Astara's Golden Flame Hydration Mask.  With an aloe vera gel as its base, it contains no oils.  But, it leaves my skin incredibly soft and smooth.  As an extra bonus, it can be used around the eyes as well.  Although I found that the mask's scent stung my eyes a bit when I used it as an eye mask, it wasn't uncomfortable enough for me to stop using it around the eye area. ($42 at Beauty.com)

Olay Daily Facial Express Wet Cleansing Cloths for Sensitive Skin - I had been looking for a facial cleanser that I could use before putting on my evening makeup yet wouldn't mess up my already "carefully arranged" hair. I've found Olay Daily Facial Express Wet Cleansing Cloths to be the answer.  These generous sized, moist towelettes really take off the dirt and makeup without any water necessary.  Since they can also be used to take off eye makeup, they are a total "on the go" cleanser. ($5.49 at drugstore.com

Eyes

Sephora Express Waterproof Eyemakeup Remover - I had always avoided waterproof eye makeup because I couldn't stand the oily residue that  many waterproof eye makeup removers left on my eyes.  But, now that I have fallen in love with some waterproof products I was on the search for an economical, non-oily solution.  I found it with Sephora Express Waterproof Eyemakeup Remover.  This product (which you need to shake since the ingredients separate) takes off my waterproof products easily without leaving my eyes feeling like they've been through an oil slick.  With the bottle holding 5oz of product (rather than the 2.3 oz I'm used to) it's is indeed economical. ($8.50 at Sephora.com)

Body

Neutrogena Ultra Soft Hydrating Sunblock - I had been looking and looking for a body lotion with SPF 30 or higher.  Neutrogena Ultra Soft Hydrating Sunblock fits the bill.  Although made as a sunblock, its light formula goes on and feels more like a body lotion.  It's non-comedogenic,  PABA free, has UVA/UVB protections and comes in both SPF 30 and 45 formulations. ($13.29 at drugstore.com)

Dove Invisible Solid Anti-Perspirant/Deodorant Unscented for Sensitive Skin - I couldn't find my regular deodorant last time I went to buy it.  So, I looked around and found Dove Invisible Solid Anti-Perspirant/Deodorant Unscented for Sensitive Skin.  It's packaging said it had all the attributes I was looking for -- invisible, unscented, and right for sensitive skin.  It certainly lived up to its claims.  The "residue" is really minimal and it has been kind to my sometimes sensitive "under arms." (currently $2.89 at drugstore.com)

Tools

MAC Small Angle Brush #266 Yes I have brushes galore.  But when I went into a nearby MAC store and had one of their makeup artists apply some eyeliners, I was very impressed with this particular angled eyeliner brush.  It gave a very precise application and since it's synthetic, it can be used for many different types of liner. Even better, I found it easy to use when I got it home. ($18.50 at macys.com)

So don't let the hot, humid days of summer get you down, try a few new "pick me up" products.
