Beauty Bits and Tips:  a few more beauty hints from us

shopping with the pros:  makeup artists pick Their favorites for spring/summer 2005

As the calendar moves forward and the days get warmer (at least here in Manhattan), my thoughts turn to a great makeup look for the Spring and Summer months.   Every year I find it a challenge to find products that both update my look and can become a part of an easy "every day" routine.  So, this time I went to the experts!  I asked a cadre of makeup artists who work in different geographic locations to pick one or two of their favorite products for the Spring/Summer months.  Thank you all for your great ideas.  Now, let's take a look at their picks ...

From New York City:

John Ottavino picks:

Laura Geller Makeup Studios Bronze & Brighten ($28 at Sephora.com) - A liquid is poured into a terracotta pan and baked to create this product. The result is a "marbleized" color effect with one shade matching all skin tones.  Bronze & Brighten evens out skin tones, takes down redness, and adds a hint of color to your skin.  It is a great replacement for a spring/summer foundation giving you that freshly bronzed sun-kissed look from being on the beach.

MAC Lip Products (available at macys.com) - MAC makes one of the broadest, widest spectrums of lip color in the marketplace including a long-lasting lipstick with staying power without being marketed as "a long-lasting" ($14).  MAC's matching lip pencils ($11.50) and lip glosses ($11.50-$13.50) create a finished look with similar effects to using lipstick alone.  All three can be mixed and matched.  For Spring/Summer, I recommend nude shades such as "Cherish" or sheer lip veils for a soft, easy look.  For bold and bright colors, try MAC's Viva Glam collection.

Wendy Levitt picks:

Paula Dorf Face Tint in Jet Set Glo - ($36 at Beauty.com).  This is a tinted moisturizer with  SPF 15 and a bit of sheen so it gives your skin a nice glow with or without a tan. You can use it alone or mix it in with a foundation.

Paula Dorf Loose Powder in NoColor Glimmer - ($30 at Beauty.com).  The look for the season is shimmer and this powder gives a healthy looking glow to any matte color product without looking dry. It also can be used on shoulders and décolletage as well.

From Houston, TX

Danielle Doyle picks:

The Shu Uemura Eyelash Curler ($17 at Sephora.com) - It is by far the best on the market. It has the widest base, allowing all the lashes to be curled evenly, not one is left out. Also the rubber on the pad is the softest around, treating your lashes with kindness while still getting the job done. Remember always curl your lashes before applying mascara, never after.

From Miami, FL

Lisa Lee picks:

The Styli-Style Flat Pencil ($8 at CosmeticMall.com) - I like them for the variety of colors and the staying power on the eyes. Also when you place a little heat to them, it makes them go on quickly and smoothly which is great for clients who are sensitive to  having eyeliner apply to there eyes.

Make Up For Ever's Mat Velvet Oil Free Foundation ($36 at Sephora.com) - It gives a clean matte look to the clients skin without look overly made up. They also come in a variety of shade which can be used by women of all skin tones.

From Sherman Oaks, CA

Lusine Galadjian  picks:

Elain Colorist Duet Eye Liner ($17 at CosmeticMall.com) - It contains an eye pencil and a liquid eyeliner in one so it's great to line the upper lid with the liquid and the matching pencil on the bottom. It is also a great concept for everyone. You can line the upper lid with the pencil and just go over it with the liquid, making it easier to make a straighter line. It comes in 6 amazing colors that you can mix and match with.

Paula Dorf Eye Primer ($24 at Beauty.com). It is a wonderful makeup base for the eyes which smoothes and neutralizes the eyelid so your shadow looks true and stays on all day without creasing. I've found that it also doesn't dry your lids like other primers can and it comes in two shades, one for lighter skin tones and one for darker ones.

From Europe:

UK and Spain based Tracy-ann Edwards picks:

Virgin Vie Radiance Boost - (£14.50 at myvirgincosmetics.co.uk) - This is a creme bronzer which you can apply under foundation or just on its own.  It gives an instant glow (fresh off the beach look).  It's really easy to apply and  lasts for ages.  It brings out the natural pigment in the skin identical to that of the sun's natural rays.

Have a beautiful month!
