Beauty Bits and Tips: a few more beauty hints from usNew Products: the great, the near great, and the not so great at allI've been on a new product spree. As a matter of fact, a few weeks ago I attended an event where many, many different products were shown, and I came home with a goody bag that weighed 15 lbs. (Yes, it was so heavy I actually put it on a scale and weighed it.) In addition, I've experimented with a number of new products I've found on my own. So, over the next several months I'll be trying new products and, of course, I'll share my views with you. So, without further ado, let's take a first peek at my list of the great, the near great, and those disappointments who don't make the list at all. At The Top Of The List These gems are new finds that have "really made a difference" in the way I look. Two of these new favorites come from the brand Aveeno.
DERMAdoctor Wrinkle
Revenge Rescue and Protect Eye Balm
- This is another new product that has made a real difference. I've tried
a number of products for dark circles but this is the first that has visibly
lightened the area under my eyes. Also, it does not leave a greasy film
that causes eye makeup to run so you can wear it day and/or night. ($68 at DERMAdoctor.com) Prevage MD - In my column last month, I talked about some of the good and the bad about this new anti-aging product . Now having more experience with it, I thought I'd share my current view. In a nutshell, I don't look 20 years younger but my lines are definitely diminished -- most are still there, but getting less and less noticeable. Actually, I stopped using Prevage MD for 10 days and tried another product that claimed to reduce lines. However, within that time I found that some of the good the Prevage MD had done in the six weeks I had used it was gone. So, I returned to my Prevage MD regimen and again I'm seeing a difference. I also noticed that since I had been exfoliating with the Aveeno Positively Radiant Cleansing Pads, applying Prevage MD is much easier. In last month's column, I talked at length about the severe rashes that some visitors had told me they experienced after using Prevage MD. I experienced no problems either the first time I used it or in the week that I've been back on it. However, I've noticed that Allergan's Prevage website has been updated and you might want to check out what they are saying about usage and other things. It is becoming more and more difficult to find this product outside doctor's offices. So, we are trying to keep our visitors up-to-date with information which can be found on our Prevage page. The Near Great Aveeno Positively Radiant Moisturizing Lotion - This product is a really nice body moisturizer with a slightly luminous sheen. However, I do find it a trifle thick and a bit hard to rub in. Ordinarily, I wouldn't mind this since the product does its job, but I find it takes a fair amount of lotion to cover my body. In the four weeks I've been using the product, I'm almost at the half-way mark. However, since it's not one of those pricey products, buying it more frequently is easier to swallow. ($7.99 at drugstore.com) The Dissapointments I have two candidates in this category and they both are mascaras. Now, I admit that I'm fussy about my mascara but I was disappointed in these two. I tried both alone and with a lash conditioner. Although both looked better applied over the conditioner, neither will be a staple in my makeup tray.
