Beauty Bits and Tips: a few more beauty hints from usmorning madness: products that reduce the stressAs always, I've been on the lookout for those perfect products. While I still may be on my quest, I found four new treats that make my morning maintenance run a little smoother. Dr. Comenge - *Editors Note: Since publication of this article, we have no longer been able to find places where Dr. Comenge products are sold. When several of our visitors gave high marks to the Dr. Comenge BioTexture26 Intensive Night Cream, I decided to check the brand out for myself. In a nutshell, this line of new anti-aging products was created by an endocrinologist and is built around a five product routine (a cleanser, an activator, eye/lip cream, day cream, and night cream). Although expensive, I like the regimen's simplicity and I've been trying it out for the past few weeks. A few quick impressions about the products. The cleanser (BioTexture Pure Wash ) has a slightly medicinal smell which goes away once you wash the cleanser off your face. The activator (BioTexture Activator) can be a little sticky when it first goes on, but I believe it helps with the application of the day and night creams. The night cream may feel a little dry once you start rubbing it onto your skin. (The company assures me this is normal and in no way alters its effectiveness.) So, you may say, what's the big deal? Keeping in mind that it takes about three months to really evaluate skin care products, so far, I like the results. And, I'm absolutely delighted with how well my make-up goes on after my morning routine of the Wash, Activator and BioTexture 20 Day Cream SPF 15 (which contains both 7.5% octinoxate and 3.0% zinc oxide). This cream goes on smoothly, doesn't leave a pasty look (which so often happens when using products with zinc oxide), and my foundation and blush seem to glide onto my skin. One note, I do find that the eye/lip cream isn't quite light enough to avoid the "running eye makeup" problem, so I use it only at night. But, all in all, I can't wait to see this line's performance over the next several months. It may well be a keeper. Almay Anti-Perspirant
& Deodorant Soft Solid - Fragrance Free - A deodorant you might
say. What's could be so special about that. Well, to those of us
with allergic or sensitive skin, finding one that
doesn't irritate can be an occasion in and of itself. But, when
you also find with that leaves minimal or no "white residue," I
say haul out the champagne and celebrate. I'm happy to say that I've found
that Almay
Anti-Perspirant & Deodorant Soft Solid - Fragrance Free accomplishes both of
these goals. Actually, all of the Almay deodorants that I have
tried have greatly reduced my allergic reactions. However, every day after getting dressed, I found
those nasty white,
powdery spots on my (almost always) black tops. So, when I noticed that
one of the Almay products had the claim, "New, Smooth Glide Formula, No
Residue," I decided to try it. Not expecting much, I was pleasantly surprised. This deodorant goes on dry (so you don't have to
wait to get dressed) and I've found that it almost never leaves any of that
white residue on my tops. (When it does, the amount seems to be much less.) Now, I no longer worry about walking into the office looking
like my powder puff exploded. Almay Anti-Perspirant & Deodorant Soft
Solid is available at drugstore.com Clearly Natural
Unscented Glycerin Soap - I wear contact lenses and had been noticing that
my eyes were burning each time I put them in. I finally figured out that
the soaps I was using were the culprits. For some reason, they were
leaving some sort of residue on my hands and were ultimately getting into my
eyes along with my lenses. So, when I read a review that said that Clearly
Natural Unscented Glycerin Soap "rinses clean," I thought it worth a
try. Well, I'm glad I did. Since I started using Clearly Natural as
my hand soap, I've had no more burning when I put in my contact lenses.
Also, I like the price. A three pack costs about $2.50. Your choice
of hand soap may seem minor, but sore, teary eyes aren't a pretty thing.
Clearly Natural Unscented Glycerin Soap is available at drugstore.com DevaCurl Products - A few months ago I named DevaCurl Angell as one of my new "hit" products. Since that time, I've tried out the whole line and in a word, it's "love." As one with ringlets, it's always been a fight to the finish with my hair. But now, the combination of having let my curls grow longer and using DevaCurl products to condition and style my hair has turned my morning tussle with my hair into one of supreme satisfaction. Although the line consists of products for wavy/straight, blonde, and red hair, the basic curly hair line has four products. No Poo is a non-lathering, conditioning cleanser, One Condition is a rinse-out conditioner, Angell is a styling gel, and Mist-er Right is a spray which re-activates the Angell gel and revitalizes curls. All the products smell wonderful. I use the No Poo twice a week to cleanse my hair and scalp along with the conditioner. Other days I use the One Condition as both a cleanser and conditioner. (This is how it was recommended to me to use the products.) I also use the Angell daily for styling. I simply "scrunch" my hair dry with a towel, turn my head upside down and "scrunch" in the gel from ends to scalp, and briefly dry with a blow dryer and diffuser . (Since my hair is fine and I need a little help with the volume, I apply a light body spray, then the gel and dry my hair for a few minutes with my head upside down. When my hair is slightly dry, I throw my head back and carefully fix the curls where I want them.) When my hair has gotten "out of control" during the day (sometimes during the summer months or when I've spent too much time "fixing" it), I spray on some Mist-er Right to help eliminate the frizz and right the curl. Although, I can't claim that spraying with Mist-er Right gives a freshly styled appearance, it does help undo some of the damage that the weather, time, and over-active fingers have wrought. All in all, these products are a morning lifesaver. DevaCurl Products are available at CosmeticMall.com.
