Beauty Bits and Tips: a few more beauty hints from usmakeup looks for Fall 2006Makeup trends for Fall. What are they and how do I wear them? This is the question I've been asking myself and some of the beauty experts I've met over the last several weeks. Guess what -- there seem to be two opposite trends. So, let's take a look at each. Emphasis on the eye: The Smoky Eye and Pale Lip This season the smoky eye and pale lip get a bit of a twist with a look that harks back to the 1960s. The black and white eye with lots of liner and/or false eyelashes (or great mascara) is the focal point of these looks. For those who weren't there the first time around, think Elizabeth Taylor in Cleopatra and Twiggy with her big, emphasized eyes framed by loads of eyelashes. In both cases, a pale eye shadow is used a on the lids. For the "Cleopatra" eye (one where black liner is swept upward beyond the left lash line on both the upper and lower lids), a waterproof gel or liquid is probably the way to go. Then there are the eyelashes. False eyelashes are back and if you can handle them, they really complete this look. Otherwise, it's lots and lots of good black mascara. To offset the emphasis on the
eye, this look has a pale lip. However, it's lipstick rather than gloss
that is being used. Pink seems to be the color of choice in a variety of
pale shades. In our opinion, the Sephora.com Emphasis on the lip: A vibrant lip with a pale eye This classic red lip and pale eye seems to be coming back in a big way. Although it might not have hit all the stores as of yet, we've seen it in many magazine ads and have been told that this will be a big look as we head into holiday season. To create this look, a white or pale beige shadow is used on the lid, a thin line is applied right along the lash line with black pencil eyeliner, and then it's lots of black mascara to finish the eye. With this look, the lip is the focal point and I've seen vibrant colors from bright red, to burgundy, and everything in between. Again, lipstick (rather than gloss) is the item of choice. Since your lips are likely to be the first thing people notice with this look, the most important thing is to find a lip color that is flattering. Not everyone can wear every shade of red, berry, burgundy and the like. For instance, a red lipstick with an orange undertone is terrible on me. (I think it makes me look like a clown.) I need to actually try on lipsticks to make my choices and, if possible, I suggest that you do that too. (Don't forget to make sure that the lipstick in the tester is cleaned before you apply it!) If you want to take a look a some of the wide choice of colors, go to Sephora.com and check out Dior Addict Lipstick in Positive Red ($23.50), Givenchy Lip Lip Lip! Extreme lipstick in either Blushing Red or Reception Red ($23), Guerlain Kiss Kiss lipstick in Folie de Grenat ($26), Delux lipstick in Ernest, Nigel, or Vinnie ($18), or Sephora cream lipstick in #55, #91, or 94 ($10). And, these are just a very few of the choices. I happen to love this look which really hasn't been popular in several season. I also believe that with the right products (both in color and consistency) and the right application, it can be worn by many, many women even in the older age brackets. Also, it's a great night look if you prefer a more natural one during the day. Fall is a great time to experiment with a new look. So, try on one of these looks or another altogether. But, no matter what, have fun with your makeup! Have a beautiful autumn! Carol Fall 2006 E-commerce sites carrying
