Beauty Bits and Tips:  a few more beauty hints from us

seven favorite Beauty products including prevage

Often I am asked what are my Favorite Beauty Products.  Actually,  I could go on forever, but, one of my best tests is what products do I really worry about forgetting when I travel.  Which ones do I count on and would need to replace rather than find a substitute.  If a product fits into this category, I consider it one that "I can't live without."  So, I gave myself the challenge to choose less than ten products that fit into this category and thought I'd share the results with you.  Some of these products I've raved about before and a couple may be new to our visitors. But whether old or new, they made the list and, perhaps, they might become one of your favorites, too.

  • AquAphor ($5.59 at drugstore.com) - My lips often get so dry that lipstick is out of the question. (You know how terrible lipstick looks on really dry lips.)  However, since I've discovered Acquaphor, the problem has practically disappeared.  This product really keeps my lips in shape.  Also, if I notice a my lips are a little dry when I'm ready to start my makeup, I put a little on, let it absorb, and blot well before I put on my lip liner and lipstick -- the last steps in my makeup routine.
  • Clearly Natural Unscented Glygerine Soap ($1.49 at drugstore.com) - Even though I don't travel with this product I probably should.  This is the best soap I've found for those of us who wear contact lenses.  You know how some soaps can leave a residue on your hands and burn and irritate your eyes after you've inserted your lenses.  Well, not this one.  It rinses clean so putting in your lenses is a "burn free" experience.
  • DevaCurl Products (No-Poo, One Condition, and Angell - 12 oz. bottles $12.95 each at CosmeticMall.com) - Okay, maybe I cheated.  These really are three products.  But, I consider the combination a hair care system and one that I can't live without.  Simply, these DevaCurl products have helped to turn my curly locks from a nightmare into a pleasure. Let the compliments keep coming.
  • Paula Dorf Sheer Crease Brush ($28 at Sephora.com) - A few months ago, a makeup artist showed me how this sheer crease brush could be the only eye shadow brush that I needed for my eye shadow application.  Granted, other eye shadow brushes create different effects, but using this brush for all your eye color creates a sheer, pretty look.  So, if your looking for a soft eye, are in a hurry, or want to pack lightly, reach for this brush.  And, by the way, if you ever come across the Paula Dorf Under Eye Powder Brush, grab it.  This brush is apparently not made any more.  It's flat-topped with bristles approximately 1/2 inch x 1/2 inch and perfect to apply powder to those hard to reach spots like under the eyes.
  • Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer ($40 at Sephora.com) - I love this product and it  has a lot going for it.  Besides having an SPF of 20, this tinted moisturizer gives just enough coverage for a sheer, natural look.  I use it when I want to take my makeup down a notch or when I'm in a hurry and don't want to take the time for foundation.  It blends beautifully and doesn't seem to seep into my lines and pores to exaggerate them.  In addition, it comes in 7 shades which really helps you find the right match for your skin color.
  • Creed Spring Flower Perfume ($130 for 2.5 oz. bottle at StrawberryNET.com) - I discovered Creed Perfumes and their Spring Flower Scent several years ago.  I'm quite sensitive to perfume so I'm always looking for ones that won't bother my skin. So far, I've been lucky with all the Creed perfumes I've tried.  They make so many lovely scents that it was hard to choose just one,  but ultimately I picked Spring Flowers and have made it my "signature scent" ever since.  Originally created for the actress Audrey Hepburn, this wonderful floral scent always makes me feel a little glamorous when I spray it on.
  • Prevage ($150 at The SkinStore.com) - All right, I know this one is a little "controversial."   There is no question that many of our visitors have had strong allergic reactions to both Prevage MD (1% idebenone) and the new Prevage product by Elizabeth Arden (.5% idebenone).  However, I've been lucky and had none.  I've been using Prevage products for about 14 months now and in my opinion it really works.  While it's not a miracle cream, I've seen the wrinkles on the upper part of my face diminish little by little with some of them practically gone.  My biggest complaint was that the 1% formulation was not cosmetically attractive and applying creams and makeup over it could be difficult.  So, about two months ago I tried the new Prevage (.5% idebenone) which is more like a serum.  Cosmetically, its much improved.  I've been using it during the day with the Prevage MD (1%) at night.  So far, this combination seems to be working as well as using the 1% formula twice a day.  There's no question that you should approach this product with some caution since many have had such problems with it.  You might want to check out the Prevage section of the Elizabeth Arden website for more information about the product including  "How Do I Use Prevage?" in the FAQ section.  And, it never hurts to contact a health care professional before starting a regimen such as this.

Have a beautiful month!
